Skinny jeans for girls with shape
It seems skinny jean are here to stay. When skinnies started showing up there were groans from curvy girls all over the world. It seemed an impossible ask for anyone with some shape.
Skinnies can be a struggle at first. Which shoes? Which shirt? But if you get it right skinny jeans can be much sexier with curves than without. Take a look at Beyonce, post-baby in a pair of figure hugging pants. She is a woman who knows how to make use of her shape and skinny jeans and heals are a staple of her wardrobe.
Skinny jeans are not all cut the same. A hipster cut may look good on teenage girls with no hips but a curvy girl is asking for a wardrobe malfunction. Hanging out the back of your pants is not sexy or stylish. Try a higher waisted cut, it doesn’t need to be “high waist” but look for something that finishes closer to your belly button than your bikini line. Certain brands are made to have more rise in the back to accommodate so try on a few different brands before settling for something you might spill out of.
Colour is important too. The shops are full of coloured skinnies but getting it right can be tricky. Novices may want to stick to the tried and tested black or dark denim. These colours are timeless; they never go out of style and have the added bonus of being slimming.
If you are feeling daring then choose your colours carefully. While some have perfected the neon skinnies, there is the risk of looking like a huge fire truck. Darker shades really are the most flattering for fuller figures. Maroon, navy, bottle green, purple are all on trend without being obnoxious. I’d advise avoiding white, this shade is only for master stylist and so easy to get wrong.
Skinny jeans look best when balanced out with a great jacket or tunic. Tops should drape. Avoid anything clingy. Tops should end below the belt line or longer to create a skimming effect. It is not often a tight shirt looks good with a skinny jeans, the only exception to the rule is if you pair your jeans with a tight tank and a blazer or a vest. Try tucking your shirt in and couple it with a skinny flat belt in the same colour as your jeans.
The hardest thing with a skinny jean, no matter what shape you are, is getting the shoes right. Pay attention to the length of your jeans, this can impact which shoes look best. If your jeans are a bit longer shoes with a heal or tucked into boots look best to avoid those ugly folds around the ankles.
There is a lot of disagreement about which shoes look best but one thing all fashion writers will agree is skinny jeans should not be worn with athletic shoes (personally I think joggers and jeans should never be seen). Skinnies are about looking sleek and sexy, bulky runners draw attention to your feet instead of your other assets.
Mid-calf to knee-high boots with a little heel are made for skinny jeans. Remember the look you are going for is long and sleek, so keep the boots simple. You don’t want to add extra bulk to your legs! Ankle boots with a heel can also work as long as they are not too chunky.
My favourite is the wedge heel; simple, stylish, easy to walk in. They give you a bit of height, which adds to the overall long and lean look.
