How to Choose a Wedding Band

Write on by David

When it comes to choosing the perfect entertainment for your wedding, where is the best place to start? The choice of a wedding band is a very important element of the wedding reception as it is vital to creating that all important atmosphere as it does set the mood. Many decisions are made to make a wedding a memorable day and not all choices please each guest. This is definitely the case when it comes to music for a wedding.

I am sure many people have been to parties, weddings or events where it just feels lifeless and boring inside. From the type of music that is played and the musicians performing can turn this sad scene around.

So how do you find a good wedding band? Where do you start? Is there a place to go and see these ‘wedding bands’. How do you know that they will suit you and your wedding? What happens if you have a budget you are trying to keep to?

The first place to look would be the internet. Googling wedding bands in your city for example: Wedding Bands Melbourne or Wedding Bands VIC, will display a number of companies that have many lists of bands, trio’s (three piece), duo’s (two piece).  Going through one of these companies is a great option. These companies will help guide you through what bands would be suitable.

The first decision to be made is on the size of the band in comparison to the space where the reception is being held. If you have quite a large venue and a bigger budget for entertainment, then a 4 to 5 piece band maybe more suitable. If the venue is smaller and the area for the entertainment to set up is quite small you may want to consider a 2 or 3 piece band.

It is necessary to think of your budget for the band. A 2 or 3 piece band maybe more feasible than a 5 piece band. Prices can vary and what you pay for one particular 5 piece band maybe a lot less than another. Price does not always mean quality.

Make sure you listen to videos and and audio files from the website. Also look at pictures and at song lists. There are many different bands that play an array of different styles. Email or call as many as you can and start to gather prices and availability.

When you have narrowed down your search, ask to see them play live or meet them one on one. I think having a conversation with the entertainment you want to book so important. What you see is not always what you get. Some pics may not be a real representation of how people look now. Also speaking to the band will show personalities as you want a band that will work with you!

Wedding Expos often have bands performing and this is a great opportunity to meet the band and see them play live. Wedding Expos are not on all year round therefore Google is your best bet as you are open to an endless selection. Watching them live and meeting them is a great option to ensure you have selected the right band.  Or if they are unavailable to show case for you, make sure you ask a lot of questions as you want to be able to choose the right music for your wedding.
